Day Wines 2016 'Vicis' Momtazi Vineyard

In a nod of inspiration to the elegant, ethereal Cerasuolo reds of Italy, Brianne set out in 2016 to achieve something even more delicate than Pinot noir and determined that co-fermenting it with white varietals just might result in the textural and aromatic profile she sought. Pinot noir, Pinot gris, and Pinot blanc are all very closely related varieties, like sisters to each other, and these grapes also happen to come from the same house - the inimitable Momtazi vineyard in McMinnville.

Brianne made this wine in honor of her dearest friend, Jennifer, with whom she shares a true sisterly bond. As Brianne was conceiving of this wine, Jenn became aware that she carried the BRCA gene, which predicts a dramatically increased risk of breast cancer for those who carry it. As any woman knows, this is a life-altering and life-threatening revelation. In tribute to Jenn and the millions of women who deal with breast cancer in their own lives or the lives of loved ones, we contribute all proceeds from the sale of this wine to organizations who support these women as they take a courageous stand against a devastating disease.

67% Pinot noir, 17% Pinot blanc, 16% Pinot gris. The grapes were destemmed and cofermented in one small (1.5 ton) fermenter. The wine went through native ferment then into neutral barrel for 10 months before being bottled.
