We were ecstatic to be able to work with fruit from this lovely site. Brian O’Donnell is someone whom Brianne has looked up to in the industry for years, and with whom she was lucky enough to work in 2011. The site that he and his wife, Jill, have established embodies the diversity we have in mind when we think of a multi-culture farm. In other words, they raise a lot more than just grapes. Their steep, southwest-facing 2-acre block of Chardonnay produces some of the most gorgeous fruit in the valley, really earninig the name "Beautiful Slope".
The 2016 vintage of our Belle Pente Vineyard Chardonnay is a chameleon. Initially, notes of orange peel citrus and spice suggest a decadent wine, but these quickly give way to cool and clean aromas of honeysuckle, wintergreen, and crushed oyster shell. It's reminiscent of a top-flight premier cru Chablis with bright, focused acidity supporting green apple and tangerine flavors. The wine's Chablisiènne side shows even more in the racy minerality that unfolds with air and carries through the long, vibrant finish. It's vineyards and wines like these that we hope will come to define Willamette Valley Chardonnay in the years ahead.
100% Chardonnay. Fermented in one new 500-liter barrel, one once-filled 300-liter barrel and two neutral 228-liter barrels. With the exception of topping, it was not touched at all for 18 months after going into barrel. It was racked into stainless steel, cold stabilized, then bottled unfined and unfiltered on April 15th, 2018.
